Knit In time for Shoalhaven City
July 08, 2011
Shoalhaven City Council is again supporting the ‘ABC Local Radio Knit In’ as the program returns for its ninth year.
The state-wide scheme calls on residents to help those less fortunate by donating a knitted square to charity, Wrap with Love who will then sew the squares into warm blankets for use by needy communities worldwide.
Selected Shoalhaven City Library branches (Nowra, Ulladulla, Sanctuary Point and Milton) will be collecting knitted squares to donate throughout July.
Shoalhaven City Council Manager of Library and Community services, Ms Noela Lim, said she was happy that local libraries could assist in helping less fortunate people throughout the world.
“Libraries are well known for their community feel, and it makes us proud to be a collection point for something that will make a real difference to someone else’s life,” said Ms Lim.
“I would encourage all local residents to get behind this terrific project and help make a difference.”
To assist in the donation of squares, Nowra Library will be hosting a group knitting session and morning tea on Tuesday 2 August from 9.30am. Knitters of all levels and experience are invited to attend.
Over 900,000 individual squares have been knitted as part of the ABC Local Radio Knit In since the program’s inception in 2003.
These donations have resulted in the donation of over 30,000 blankets to communities in Countries including Uruguay, Pakistan, Mongolia, Zimbabwe, Armenia and Afghanistan.
