Shoalhaven City Arts Centre will be featuring the latest M.G Dingle and G.B Hughes collection, LESS IS MORE: More or Less, from Thursday 5 April – 3 May 2012.
The collection shows works by a host of renowned and critically acclaimed artists, all of which have roamed across historic styles and chosen influences to assist in capturing a mood, essence or sense of place while exploring the realms of minimalist art.
With the works ranging from the 1960s through to the current day, the collection features pieces from Virginia Coventry, Elizabeth Cummings, Margaret Dredge, Vivienne Ferguson, David Horton, Tim Maguire and Aida Tomescu.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green described the collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, ceramics and drawings from the M.G Dingle and G.B Hughes collection as an ongoing exploration of the minimalist side of art.
“Collection curator, Max Dingle has chosen a series of works exploring the potential of minimal art without the loss of meaning or self expression,” said Clr Green.
“Minimalist art requires the audience to slow down, sharpen focus and explore the full meaning of each piece.
“With works on display from a number of high profile and up and coming artists, Dingle has again created a diverse and unique collection.”
“Included in the collection are Sculpture by the Sea winner, David Horton whose piece Tapia demonstrates boldness through simplicity; Tim Maguire who explores life and death through minimalism while Margaret Dredge features with two pieces created nearly forty years ago when minimalism was directly influencing the Australian art scene.”
“I would encourage anyone interested in art to visit this amazing collection of works and further explore this new aspect of the M.G Dingle and G.B Hughes collection which is a bequest to the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery.”
