Shoalhaven City Council Staff are coming together every Friday to give back to the Community. Council holds Casual for a Cause once a week, where staff can give a contribution towards a local charity. The initiative has been very successful with staff already donating $22, 565.
Earlier in November five charities were presented with a cheque for $1000 to each charity, after being spun up on Council’s Charity Spinning Wheel. The organisations who benefited from this donation where; East Nowra Community Garden, Head Space Nowra, Shoalhaven Cancer Clinic, Shoalhaven Suicide Prevention & Awareness and Supported Accommodation & Homeless Services Shoalhaven Illawarra.
Furthering this staff from Council’s Planning, Environment & Development department raised an additional $1000 to be donated to Shoalhaven Homeless Hub. The service expressed their thanks and informed Council that the money would go towards Christmas hampers for families doing it tough and those that require medical treatment.
Mayor Amanda Findley could not be any prouder of Shoalhaven City Council’s employees. “This is a fantastic initiative that is allowing staff to give back to the community that they work and live in every day.” Mayor Findley said.
“Staff are able to nominate local charities and then we spin a wheel to see who the lucky charities of that donation drive will be.
“Money is collected voluntary from staff who choose to wear mufti on Friday’s, this allows people to show off their smart casual attire a little more of their creative personality and style whilst also supporting a charity in need.
“I am proud of the staff at Shoalhaven City Council and look forward to seeing how much we can raise in the future.” Clr Findley said.
Council staff are now setting their sights on breaking records and hope to be able to provide more charities with a donation in each round. The next donation drive will be supporting the Mayor’s Giving Box.
