December 21, 2011
Shoalhaven City Council has won the rights to host the 2012 Grade Five NSW State Pennant Lawn Bowls Finals.
Hosted by the Bomaderry and Berry Bowling Clubs, the State Pennant Finals will see nearly 200 competitors taking part in three days of competition between 4 – 7 August 2012.
The NSW State Pennant Finals weekend is the culmination of three months of qualifying rounds for the 600 NSW Clubs and 2,000 sides taking part in the event.
The tournament is further example of Shoalhaven City Council’s commitment to luring sporting events to the area with the NSW RSL State Swimming Carnival, NSW Baseball Little League Championships and Special Olympics Australia NSW State Games also taking place throughout the year.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green said the State Pennant Finals will provide the area an opportunity to further showcase the Shoalhaven to the 200 competitors plus officials and spectators taking part in the event.
“I’m extremely pleased to see the Shoalhaven awarded the rights to host the 2012 Grade Five NSW State Pennant Lawn Bowls Finals,” said Clr Green.
“A State Pennant title is the career pinnacle for many bowlers, regardless of the grade in which they participate, with clubs taking great pride in their pennant achievements at district, zone and state levels.
“This event will provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase the many tourism destinations and high class facilities the Shoalhaven has to offer while also providing an opportunity for local businesses to profit outside of peak season.”
Bowls NSW CEO, Greg Helm said that by developing a strong working relationship between Shoalhaven City Council and Bowls NSW, the local tourism industry as well as all bowlers who attend these events will see a great mutual benefit.
“Bowls NSW is extremely excited to be working collaboratively with Council to bring this prestigious bowls event to the area, and hope that the local business community will welcome the 200 competitors and many more supporters and officials that visit over the three days of competition,” said Mr Helm.
“The 2012 NSW State Pennant Finals will be hosted in seven different Regional areas over the bank holiday weekend in August and highlights the commitment from Bowls NSW to promote the sport of bowls in Regional NSW. “
The Bomaderry and Berry Bowling Clubs have been awarded the co-hosting rights for the 2012 Grade 5 State Pennant Final.
