Council to consider Draft Shoalhaven LEP post exhibition report

Shoalhaven City Council will consider an initial post exhibition report on the Draft Shoalhaven Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2009 at this Tuesday’s Ordinary Meeting.

The new LEP will eventually replace the existing Shoalhaven LEP 1985 and will control development and guide planning decisions made by Council.

This important planning document was the subject of a lengthy community consultation process as Council staff took the LEP ‘on the road’ throughout a 13 week exhibition period.

Council staff convened 13 village stalls, eight community ‘drop in’ sessions, an industry breakfast and attended a range of Community Consultative Body and public meetings to which they were invited.

The post exhibition report going before Tuesday’s Ordinary Meeting provides Councillors with an overview of the exhibition process and also discusses options to manage the next steps in the LEP process.

The report does not address individual issues or submissions received from the community throughout the engagement process.

Shoalhaven City Council Strategy Planning Manager, Gordon Clark said that while the 13 week exhibition period had closed Council was continuing to deal with the Draft LEP as a priority.

“The exhaustive engagement process provided an important opportunity for the community to have their say on this important planning document,” said Mr Clark.

“The next steps in the process require Council to consider the range of issues detailed in the 3,000 submissions received throughout the engagement period and if necessary or appropriate respond to the matters that have been raised by the various sectors within the community.

“The post exhibition report going before Tuesday’s Ordinary Meeting is the first in what will be a series of reports to Council on the outcomes of the extensive Draft LEP 2009 community engagement process. “

Mr Clark said the report also updates all relevant stakeholders as to the status and likely future key milestones for the draft LEP.

Further information regarding the report and the project can be found at Council’s dedicated draft LEP 2009 website http://slep2009.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au/

Council will consider the post exhibition report at the Ordinary Meeting taking place at Council’s Nowra Administration Building from 4pm this Tuesday 29 November.
