Bridge Funding Welcomed

Shoalhaven City Council has welcomed Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s $155 million commitment to funding the Nowra Bridge under the federal government’s budget announcement.

This brings the freight and traffic solutions for the Shoalhaven River crossings a step closer to reality.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Patricia White and Chair of South East Australian Transport Strategy (SEATS) said, “This announcement is very pleasing for the Shoalhaven community and means that the whole of the Princes Highway upgrade is moving forward.”

“On behalf of Council and SEATS, I would like to thank the federal government for the funding commitment and in investing in the Shoalhaven.  This commitment in funding will certainly help in building a solution that will assist in easing traffic congestion around the bridge crossing area.”

“We look forward to the process of getting a new bridge as quickly as possible.”

“Council understands the some of the community are concerned regarding the current plans on exhibition. Council, together with SEATS, look forward to working with the RMS and members of government in developing the final details.” Councillor White said.

“There is still a long way to go in building the bridge, but the outcome will certainly assist locals and our economy in improving access and ensuring our City’s future growth.”
