October 26, 2011
Shoalhaven City Council has secured the rights to host the NSW Little League Baseball State Championships from 14 – 17 April 2012.
The event is expected to bring around 600 competitors, families and officials to the Shoalhaven over the four days of competition, generating around $130,000 in revenue into the Shoalhaven economy.
The NSW Little League Baseball State Championships will be played by 13 teams representing districts throughout the state.
Open to children aged 11-12 years old, the winners of the tournament will go on to play for a spot in the Asia Pacific Championships at the Australian Titles.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green said the Little League Championships would provide a huge economic boost to the area with visitors expected to tour many of the Shoalhaven’s smaller towns and villages throughout their stay.
“With over 600 competitors and spectators coming to the area this event will provide a fantastic opportunity to showcase the many tourism destinations and high class facilities the Shoalhaven has to offer,” said Clr Green.
“Further to this, the April 2012 Championships will allow local businesses to profit outside of the peak tourist season.”
General Manager of Baseball NSW, Tim Harradine said he was looking forward to bringing the championships to the Shoalhaven.
“Little League is a worldwide phenomena that is growing in Australia and Baseball NSW is excited to bring this international event to the Shoalhaven region,” said Mr Harradine.
“With over 600 people expected to attend the NSW Little League Championships from Sydney and regional NSW this event will provide a fantastic injection to the Shoalhaven local business community.”
