Expired Flare Disposal

Shoalhaven City Council would like to advise the community that Roads and Maritime Services is once again running a program to help boaters dispose of expired flares, with mobile collections set up along the NSW coastline.

 

Flares signal that you are in trouble and provide a visible location for searching aircraft or vessels.  Most flares have a use-by date of three years and they must be replaced before the expiry date. 

 

The expired flare disposal program will run throughout January 2017 at mobile collection points at the following locations throughout the Shoalhaven and nearby:

 

  • Kiama Harbour Boat Ramp, Kiama Friday 13 January 2pm–5pm
  • Crookhaven Heads Boat Ramp, Orient Point Saturday 14 January 8am–11am
  • Wollamia Boat Ramp, Wollamia Saturday 14 January 2pm–5pm
  • North Harbour Boat Ramp, Ulladulla Sunday 15 January 8am–11am

 

Shoalhaven City Council reminds the community that flare collection is no longer available at service centres, registries or maritime sites.  Flares are a problem if disposed inadequately due to their hazardous nature and need to be disposed of accordingly.
