Shoalhaven City Council has unanimously carried a Rescission Motion to put the Family Day Care Expression of Interest on hold until a further report, recommendation and information on potential funding from Federal Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis is obtained.
As part of the recommendations, Council will consult with the Member for Gilmore on assistance in gaining organisational funding for the Council managed Family Day Care Service. Council will request Ms Sudmalis assist Council to be considered as one of the approved providers and applicants for the delivery of Early Childhood Education and Care and School Age Care funding due to the current recognised National Quality Framework accreditation that Council has achieved and its history of providing the service.
Councillors will consider a further report once recommendations from the Federal Government and the consultation process with potential affected staff, educators and families has been completed. The report to Council will include all feedback, comment or suggestions from affected parties should a transfer happen. Consultation will continue with relevant staff and educators in line with the Local Government Award requirements.
The amended motion presented will ensure Council has the opportunity to consider the matter further in addition to making representations to the Federal Government to reconsider what impact it is making on Family Day Care Services locally and nationally.
Mayor Amanda Findley said, “We have heard the feedback from the educators and families and Council has put this decision forward. The Expression of Interest is on hold until we liaise with Ms Sudmalis and gain a clearer understanding on the future of funding. Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.”
Council considered a report on the future of Family Day Care service managed by Council in November and took a decision to transfer the Service to a suitable provider due to advice that the Federal Government would be withdrawing its financial support of approx. $150,000 per annum.
