Shoalhaven City Council will be holding an Extra Ordinary Meeting at the Nowra Administration Building this Monday 21 December from 2pm.
Councillor Guile, Councillor Watson and Councillor McCrudden have called for the meeting.
The meeting has been called –
‘To commence the preparation of an evidence based case for Shoalhaven City Council to stand alone apart from Kiama since our ratepayers cannot be expected to pay even higher rates and charges that a merger with Kiama would result in.”
General Manager, Russ Pigg said the meeting would provide an opportunity for Council to discuss today’s announcement by the Premier and Minister for Local Government proposing a merger of Shoalhaven City Council and Kiama Municipal Council.
“Council has today been advised of the proposed new Council to be formed between Shoalhaven and Kiama Councils,” said Mr Pigg.
“Council is expecting to receive further written advice outlining any proposal from Minister O’Toole today.
“However we have been informed that the Office of Local Government will be appointing a delegate to run the community consultation process.”
“The delegate will consult with both Councils, the local community and also conduct a public inquiry.”
“The consultation process is expected to commence in January and run for three months.”
