Shoalhaven City Council has tonight voted to keep Council’s draft planning and budget documents on public exhibition and continue to have the conversation with the community on what this means for the future.
The draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan have been on public exhibition for nearly two weeks with a public meeting already held in Ulladulla with 100 people turning out on the night to have the dialogue with Councillors and staff.
The exhibition period has also included a briefing to CCB representatives as well as other public information being provided about the strategies contained within the documentation.
The draft budget is Council’s biggest capital spend at $240 million over two years.
The plans also include future strategies in the long term financial plan to meet the State Government’s ‘Fit for the Future’ benchmarks including fixing a $13.5 million gap in operational funding.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said she was encouraging local residents to have their say on the draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan and attend one of the remaining upcoming community meetings.
The Mayor also said that it was important for local residents to understand that the draft budget was not set in stone saying the draft document would come back before Council after the exhibition period.
“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage all of the community to engage in this discussion by attending one of the two remaining public meetings at Nowra and Vincentia,” said Clr Gash.
“During debate at tonight’s Extraordinary Meeting, Councillors without exception stated that they would not support the current proposal of raising rates substantially in other areas while reducing rates in the Nowra CBD.”
“Council has heard the community yet has decided to go ahead and keep the draft document on exhibition rather than starting the whole process again.”
“We are listening and taking all of this feedback on board and it will help us shape the final version of the plan.”
“Log onto Council’s website and have a look at the information and make your submission online.
The remaining two Public Forums will be held at –
- Vincentia High School on Wednesday 13 May – 7pm
- City Administrative Centre Nowra on Monday 11 May – 7pm
