The General Manager of Shoalhaven City Council, Mr Russ Pigg, is reminding all interested ratepayers to come along to one of the three public meetings to hear more about key budget and planning issues including rates and projects for the coming year.
“This is a chance to hear staff present and explain the draft budget and proposed rating for 2015/16.
“This year Council has taken a positive step forward to confront a difficult issue and start a conversation which we are encouraging everyone to be part of.
“Whilst the residential rates proposed to increase on average 2.4%, some of the business rate categories are proposed to have significant change”, Mr Pigg said.
“Proposing a 30% reduction in business rates in Nowra CBD and increasing other business rates in the City (except Ulladulla) by 20% will be controversial but it isn’t ‘locked in’ and the final decision of Council will be guided by community submissions and further analysis of the present disparity.
“Council’s website now has a “rate calculator” (under ‘Quick Links’) for residential rates so that the public can go on the web, enter their property details and valuation to see what their rates for 2015/16 will be compared to 2014/15.
“Our staff will have a similar “rate calculator” online later next week for the Business rates so you can see what the rate changes will be for your “Business” property also.
“During the exhibition period and public meetings I am hoping that more residents and business owners turn up and engage in a sensible debate about these core issues.
“The current rates in the Nowra CBD are at a much higher level than other business areas and it becomes a question of how big that difference should be given that Nowra CBD does benefit from higher levels of services”, Mr Pigg said.
All members of the community are invited to have a say on the services and projects Council will be delivering over the coming year with public meetings to learn more at:
- Ulladulla Civic Centre on Thursday 30th April – 7pm
- Vincentia High School on Thursday 7th May – 7pm
