Unique Management Model for Community Asset

Shoalhaven City Council and Milton-Ulladulla Ex Servos today announced a unique model for the future management of the Ulladulla Civic Centre.

Under the agreement the Ex-Servos and Council will from early May onwards co-manage the centre operations, library and visitor information services and the function and event spaces.

Craig Milburn, Council’s Director of Corporate and Community Services said since opening the new look Civic Centre close to 12 months ago, Council has been assessing their capabilities and where improvements could be made to better serve the community.

“What was clear was that the operation of the centre’s function and events area needed some specialised skills and experience and this is where the Ex-Servos team come in,” said Mr Milburn.

“The Ex-Servos team have a breadth and depth of operational and event experience that under the current structure we couldn’t match, so we made the call to bring in the experts.”

“To date close to 140,000 patrons have been through the centre so we’ve no plan to change or interrupt the high level of service being delivered by our customer service team to our Library patrons or the visitors dropping into the centre for information on the local area and Shoalhaven.”

“Day-to-day operations will pretty much remain the same however the utilisation of the function and event spaces is where you’ll see some changes and these will have great benefit to the local community.”

Ex-Servos Secretary Manager Darryl Bozicevic added that since the opening of the refurbished Civic Centre people have seen just a taste of the potential the centre has.

“It’s a brilliant state of the art facility that has greatly improved our local capacity to attract major events, concerts, festivals, conferences and of course the booming destination wedding market.”

“We’re going to focus on securing more of these events for Ulladulla and with success will come great flow on benefits to the local community.”

“The community will benefit from jobs directly and indirectly linked to these events, more people coming to town to stay and play, eat in our wonderful restaurants, clubs and pubs and of course get some retail therapy in the local area while they’re here.”

“The Ex-Servos team is really looking forward to working with Council and the local community to make the most of what we believe is one of the jewels in the Ulladulla crown,” said Mr Bozicevic.
