Shoalhaven City Council has commenced works on Stage one of the $110,000 St Georges Basin Village Green project.
Stage One works include the reshaping of existing landscaping to allow for the improved treatment and disposal of stormwater and the provision of essential pedestrian links.
The works will also include the further facilitation of connections with existing and future developments.
Deputy Mayor, John Wells said that once completed the Village Green would provide a central open green space and focal point for the St Georges Basin Neighbourhood Centre.
“Council purchased this land in 2009 with the view towards creating a more usable and connected meeting space within St Georges Basin,” said Clr Wells.
“The upcoming works are being undertaken to help create a quality outdoor space for local residents and visitors to the area to utilise for recreational and relaxation purposes.
“The project design will improve stormwater management and will provide a village green incorporating elements of the natural environment.”
“The Village Green is an exciting development for local residents within St Georges Basin and I’m sure the local community will be extremely pleased with the finished result.”
The project is expected to be completed by the end of May.
