Shoalhaven City Council will be joining Athletics NSW in hosting the inaugural Greater Nowra Fun Run to be held on Sunday 31 May.
This exciting community-based initiative will feature three fun runs including the eight kilometre, Greater five kilometre and two kilometre event for children aged between five and 16 years of age.
Each of the fun runs will start and finish at the Nowra Showground with most of the course taking in amazing views of the iconic Shoalhaven River.
The course will be officially sanctioned and accredited by Athletics Australia with prizes for winners in each of the three races.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said the upcoming Nowra Fun Run provided the ideal opportunity for the entire family to test their fitness in this new and exciting event.
“The Greater Nowra Fun Run provides an opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities to be involved in an exciting and fun local competition,” said Clr Gash.
“This event is another example of Council bringing large scale sporting events that will benefit the community to the local area.
“The Greater Nowra Fun Run will help in building the area’s profile as well as providing local residents with an opportunity to take part in a fun and social activity with friends and family.”
“I certainly encourage all local residents to get behind the Greater Nowra Fun Run and ensure the event is one of the largest and most successful running events to be held in this region.”
The event organisers are already delighted by the support shown by the Nowra community with Managing Director and CEO of Athletics NSW, Greg Meagher saying he was looking forward to the inaugural run.
”Athletics NSW is committed to staging events in regional NSW and increasing participation in athletics across the state through our recreational brand, RunNSW,” said Mr Meagher.
“After the recent success of Fun Runs in Armidale, Casino, Parkes and Newcastle we are very excited to add a Fun Run to the south coast region of NSW.”
In further good news for the community, Nowra Athletics Club will be a beneficiary of the run with proceeds from every entry going to the Club.
“Nowra Athletics Club is very excited to be involved with this new fun run,” said Club President Peter Dooley.
“It will build on the strong running community we and the Shoalhaven City Council have developed over the years.
“This run is also the perfect build up for all runners preparing for other events during the winter.”
The course will be officially measured by Athletics NSW with prizes for winners in each of the main races, an option to purchase an event T-shirt, finishers medal for all children and giveaways post run.
