Shoalhaven City Council will join Mollymook Golf Club in hosting the 2015 NSW Mid-Amateur Championships from Sunday 17 May.
The event will see over 150 of the State’s most talented golfers descend on the challenging and picturesque Mollymook course for the three day competition.
The NSW Mid-Amateur Championships is a 54 hole stroke play competition for elite men and a 36 hole format for women aged between 30 – 54 years of age.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said she was delighted to see the prestigious Mid- Amateur Championships being played at Mollymook saying Council had been instrumental in bringing the event to the Shoalhaven.
“The NSW Mid-Amateur Championships represent the premier event on the Golf NSW calendar for this age category,” said Clr Gash.
“Council is very excited to be partnering with the Mollymook Golf Club and Golf NSW in bringing over 150 of the State’s elite men and women golfers to the area.
“Mollymook Golf Course has a reputation as one of the most picturesque and challenging golf course in the state offering unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean from many locations.”
“I would like to encourage all competitors and officials to maximize their time in the Shoalhaven and spend a couple of extra days exploring all we have to offer.”
2014 Women’s winner, Gemma Dooley (Moore Park and NSW Golf Clubs) will return to defend her title to make it three in a row at this Championship.
Mrs Dooley will have some hot competition though with other low markers such as Sharon Thompson (Avondale Golf Club) and Jan Crichton (Killara Golf Club) looking to stop Dooley’s hot streak at this event.
In the Men’s Championship, the favourite is past winner Andrew Tharle (Royal Canberra Golf Club) who in his last three representations at this event has finished first, sixth and fourth respectively.
Mr Tharle has also had some exceptional results lately after placing himself as a semi-finalist at the NSW Amateur recently held at Avondale Golf Club.
The Mid-Amateur Championships is part of Council’s Sports Tourism Program which is supported by Shoalhaven City Council’s Sports Tourism Partners-
Shoalhaven Water, Archer Resort, Holiday Haven Tourist Parks, Bomaderry Bowling Club, South Coast Register, 2ST, Power FM and George Bass Motor Inn.
