Council to construct two new dog parks
May 27, 2014
In fantastic news for man’s best friend, Shoalhaven City Council has recently announced plans for the construction of two new dog parks within the City.
Following consultation with local dog clubs and management committees, Council has selected sites at Milton and Nowra Showgrounds for the development of the new facilities.
The new areas will incorporate agility equipment selected by the clubs along with landscaping to develop fun and engaging sites for the enjoyment of dogs and owners alike.
The new dog facilities have been greatly assisted after a Nowra resident won $30,000 from Nestlé Purina to assist Council in developing facilities at a dog park in the Shoalhaven.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said with the money able to be split between two facilities she was looking forward to the creation of community hubs for dog lovers in both the north and south of the City.
“Council recognises the need to support alternative recreation and healthy lifestyle activities throughout the community,” said Clr Gash.
“Dogs and pets play a very important role in the lives of many residents meaning the planned dog parks will provide the community with two very well utilised, fun meeting places.
“These sorts of facilities will enable both local residents and their dogs to gain an enjoyable form of exercise while making new friends in a relaxed and engaging environment.”
Mayor, Joanna Gash said the Milton-Ulladulla Dog Training Club had been inspired to undertake their own fund-raising in order to provide additional features and opportunities at Milton Showground saying they were especially looking for assistance to purchase fencing.
“The new facilities will be made available to the whole community meaning residents do not have to be a member of the dog clubs to use them,” said Clr Gash.
“In saying that, the Milton-Ulladulla Dog Training Club is keen to welcome new members and looks forward to helping residents get the best out of the facilities at the dog park.
“Those residents that would like to assist the fundraising efforts can get in contact with the Milton-Ulladulla Dog Training Club on 4454 0171.”
Mayor, Gash said Council would also be allocating resources towards the project.
Council is currently in design phase for the two sites, anticipating completion of the project this year.
