Shoalhaven City to host 85th annual Lawn Bowls State Carnival
May 22, 2014
Shoalhaven City is set to host over 750 female lawn bowlers as part of the 85th Women’s Bowls NSW State Carnival being held from Monday 26 – Friday 30 May.
The State Carnival is a premier event in the NSW bowling calendar and will be contested at nine venues throughout the Shoalhaven area - Culburra, Milton Ulladulla, Shoalhaven Heads, St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet, Huskisson, Nowra, Shoalhaven Ex-Services and Sports and Bomaderry.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash said she was encouraging local residents to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to witness high quality lawn bowls action across the Shoalhaven.
“Hosting the 85th State Carnival here in the Shoalhaven is another tremendous coup for the area,” said Clr Gash.
“With many local residents actively participating in the sport of lawn bowls, the upcoming carnival represents the ideal opportunity to come along and take in some of the action.
“I would also like to extend a warm welcome to everyone involved in the State Carnival from the competitors and the officials to family and supporters.”
“I encourage each of you to make the most of our beautiful surroundings and facilities and wish all those competing the best of luck for the competition.”
Women’s Bowls NSW President Robyn Procter said the event is following on from the success of last year’s State Carnival, which was also held in the Shoalhaven.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the many players participating as well as our members at all the clubs supporting the Carnival,” said Mrs Procter.
“Come and enjoy watching the competition and learn a little about the challenge and friendship associated with the famous sport of lawn bowls.”
Entry is free to all the host venues.
The 2014 event will commence with the annual State Carnival Dinner on Sunday 25 May, to be held at host and sponsor, Bomaderry Bowling Club.
The event is being run once again with the generous support of Bomaderry Bowling Club and Shoalhaven City Council in conjunction with Local Sports Tourism Shoalhaven Water, Archer Resort, Holiday Haven Tourist Parks, Bomaderry Bowling Club, George Bass Motor Inn, South Coast Register, 2ST and Power FM
