Shoalhaven Rugby Club to host NSW Country Junior Rugby Championships

Shoalhaven City Council will join the Shoalhaven Rugby Club in hosting the NSW Country Junior Rugby Championships at the Shoalhaven Ricoh Rugby Park from Saturday 10 – Sunday 11 May.
The weekend will see some of the State’s most talented young rugby players competing in the Under 12, Under 13 and Under 18 age groups.
Teams representing the Illawarra, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, Central West, Far North Coast, New England, Central North and the Hunter will each be fielding sides in the tournament.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said that over 500 players, coaches, officials and spectators were expected to descend upon the Shoalhaven as part of the event.
“Shoalhaven City has built a reputation as one of the top sporting destinations in regional NSW through the successful hosting of a wide range of events,” said Clr Gash.
“In the past 12 months alone we have seen the Hobie 16 World Championships, SLS NSW Country Championships and the recent Xterra Asia Pacific Championships all hosted within the area.
“The upcoming NSW Country Junior Rugby Championships is a further example of the many high quality sporting fixtures that are continued to be played locally.”
“These Rugby Championships will provide local residents with the opportunity to witness future stars from across the State competing for the prestigious title of Country champions.”
“Many former Wallabies and state representatives have begun their careers by representing their district in the Country Championships.”
“I would certainly like to welcome all participants, coaches, officials and spectators for the upcoming tournament.”
The NSW Country Junior Rugby Championships is part of the Sports Tourism Program which is brought to the Shoalhaven by Shoalhaven City Council and supporting Sports Tourism Partners - Shoalhaven Water, Archer Resort, Holiday Haven Tourist Parks, Bomaderry Bowling Club, George Bass Motor Inn, South Coast Register, 2ST and Power FM.
