Shoalhaven City Council has secured urban renewal whiz
Marcus Westbury to present a talk on revitalising town centres on Wednesday, 16
April at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.
Renowned for his work redeveloping the Newcastle
city centre into a thriving and creative space for residents and visitors, Marcus
Westbury is the founder and Creative Director of Renew Newcastle and Renew
Renew Australia is a new national social enterprise designed to catalyse
community renewal, economic development, the arts and creative industries
across Australia. It is a low cost, low budget DIY urban renewal scheme that has proved
highly successful and generated significant media and community interest
locally, nationally and internationally. It focuses on creating the right
conditions to bring town centres alive.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash, said “The
community has identified through the Community Strategic Plan they have a
vision which seeks to bring CBDs alive and activate our waterfronts.
“This presentation will provide information about
initiatives and methods, to our community that can help this to be achieved”
Clr Gash said.
Mayor Gash said “We want to see a range of different
people across the community, whether you’re an individual from across the
Shoalhaven who have the drive to activate empty spaces, policy developers
charged with reinventing redundant spaces in your town centre, a member of a
main street organisation, in property development, or another enterprise
involved in the activation of spaces, this presentation is for you.”
The talk will commence at 5.30pm - 7.30pm (5pm
arrival for tea/coffee & canapés) at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre-
