Council moving forward with North Nowra Link Road
August 16, 2011
Shoalhaven City Council will prepare a Response to Submissions Report to the Department of Planning for the current North Nowra Link Road (NNLR) Part 3A Concept Plan application after adopting a recommendation at tonight’s Ordinary Council meeting.
The Report will address all three route options (Southern, Central and Northern) as outlined in the concept plan application, while still maintaining the Central route as the preferred option that best meets the NNLR project objectives.
The preparation of the Response to Submission Report comes after the Department of Planning placed Council’s Environmental Assessment Report, lodged as part of the Concept Plan Application in November 2010, on public exhibition during the early part of 2011.
Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green said Council would now be responding to the submissions made during the exhibition period including clarifying errors or misunderstandings made in submissions and carrying out further investigations on the three proposed routes to allow all submissions to be fully addressed.
“The North Nowra Link Road is crucial to relieving the congestion along Illaroo Road and improving access between North Nowra and Bomaderry,” said Clr Green.
“The Nowra Bomaderry Structure Plan has also identified the NNLR as important infrastructure required to cater for the area’s future expected growth.
“There is obviously a lot of support from the community for this project with over 90 percent of public submissions expressing support for the NNLR.”
Following completion of the Submissions Report, the Department of Planning will finalise their assessment of the Part 3A application and make a recommendation to the NSW Minister for Planning and Infrastructure for determination.”
As part of the resolution passed at tonight’s meeting Council will be making representations to Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward to assist in the minimisation of additional reports and costs.
