Council is seeking comment on a planning proposal to
rezone land within the ‘Heritage Estates’ at Worrowing Heights and the
adjoining ‘Elouera and Fairview Estates’ at Erowal Bay.
In recognition of the land’s high biodiversity
values, the proposal is to rezone the land to E2 Environmental Conservation in
Council’s new Local Environmental Plan.
The proposed new zoning
recognises the areas ecological significance and ensures that appropriate
planning controls are in place for the future.
“The land’s environmental
characteristics and the known flora and fauna species will be preserved and
recognised under the proposed rezoning” Mayor, Joanna Gash said.
“Now is the time for the community to have their say
on what is being proposed with a public exhibition period open from today to
the 9th of May”, Mayor Gash said.
previously investigated the rezoning of the paper subdivision known as the
‘Heritage Estates’ to allow for residential development. Following long and detailed investigations,
the proposed rezoning was eventually refused under federal environmental law
due to the environmental constraints of the land.
‘Elouera and Fairview Estates’ have not been the subject of detailed rezoning
investigations, but share similar environmental characteristics and flora and
fauna species as the ‘Heritage Estates’ and adjacent National Parks.
