Shoalhaven City Council has awarded the tender for the design and construction of the Nowra Swimming Centre upgrade to Zauner Construction.
The $7 million project will see the construction of a new nine lane pool, installation of a recreational splash pad, new filtration equipment and pool heating.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said she was extremely pleased to see the long awaited pool upgrade closer to the commencement of works.
“The Nowra Olympic Pool is obviously an extremely popular and well utilised community asset; however the facility is in desperate need of renewal works,” said Clr Gash.
“The upgraded facility will provide the community with a modern, FINA compliant swimming facility suitable for both competitive swimming and water polo purposes.
“Council has also incorporated a recreational aquatic playground/splash pad into the upgraded facility.”
“While there have been a number of comments in the media about this facility, Council recognises the importance of the Nowra Pool within the local community and has committed to delivering the project in its entirety.”
Mayor, Joanna Gash congratulated Zauner Construction on being awarded the tender for the project saying the organisation was doing a fantastic job on the soon to be complete Ulladulla Civic Centre redevelopment.
The Mayor said she hoped the upgraded pool would be completed in time for the 2014/15 swim season.
Council will be engaging with the community in the coming months regarding the operation periods for both the Bomaderry and Nowra Swimming Pools.
Key stakeholders and pool users will be invited to have their say through a specially developed survey.
