Nowra Showground to host Australia Day celebrations

Shoalhaven City Council will be joining the South Nowra Rotary in hosting the annual Australia Day celebrations from 8am – 12pm Sunday 26 January at the Nowra Showground.
The morning will feature a host of family fun and unique entertainment, culminating with the announcement of the Australia Day Award winners, Citizenship Ceremony and an address by 2014 Australia Day Ambassador, Bob Turner.
Further entertainment on the day will include a host of market stalls, face painting, jumping castles, heritage car display, emergency service displays and live performances from Paul Greene and Chloe Hannigan.
Mayor, Joanna Gash said that she was encouraging the entire community to come down to Nowra Showground and take part in the annual celebrations.
“Australia Day provides the community with the opportunity to take stock and celebrate all the things that make our Country such a special place in which to reside,” said Clr Gash.
“Council, in conjunction with South Nowra Rotary, will again be providing the community with a host of free entertainment for the entire family as part of the celebrations.
“The day will also feature the announcement of the Australian Day Award recipients, Citizenship Ceremony and an address by Australia Day Ambassador, Bob Turner.”
“A very passionate Australian, and former Shoalhaven resident, Bob will provide a unique view on what Australia Day means to him after moving to the Country over 25 years ago.”
“I would certainly encourage all local residents to come down and take advantage of the free entertainment and help celebrate being part of the greatest Country on earth.”
Mayor, Gash said the free entertainment would also include a number of uniquely Australian pastimes including lawnmower racing and gumboot throwing competitions.
The area’s annual Australia Day celebrations will take place from 8am - 12pm on Sunday 26 January at the Nowra Showground.
The announcement of the Australia Day Award winners and Citizenship Ceremony will take place from 10am in the Nowra Showground Pavilion.
