Shoalhaven City Council has been recognised for the second year in a row with an award at the recent Marketing Awards for NSW Public Libraries.
Nowra Library received a Marketing Award for their innovative Book Week Roadshow, which saw Library staff taking their traditional ‘in-house program’ to eight local Primary Schools.
Staff spent three days travelling throughout the area, utilising props and backdrops to provide local students with an exciting and enterprising series of games, songs and book readings as part of Book Week celebrations.
Mayor, Joanna Gash congratulated the Nowra Library on their recent Marketing Award saying she was delighted to see Council staff using innovative methods to engage with the community.
“The Nowra Library’s annual Book Week Celebrations provide the community with an extremely popular and entertaining week of theatre, reading and games,” said Clr Gash.
“While the annual event attracts hundreds of local school children to the Nowra Library, staff wanted to ensure that all locals had the opportunity to take part in the celebrations.
“By taking the Book Week Roadshow on tour, staff were able to visit schools in outlying towns and villages that may not have been able to visit Nowra Library during the celebrations.”
“The Book Week Roadshow resulted in an 80 percent increase in children’s access to the program while the feedback from both the participating students and teachers was extremely positive.”
“I would certainly like to congratulate Nowra Library staff on this very exciting and innovative program.”
