Mayor calling on local residents to get involved in National Tree Day

Shoalhaven City Council is calling on residents to make a positive contribution to the local environment by getting involved in National Tree Day, Australia's biggest community tree planting and nature care event.

Taking place this Sunday 28 July, Shoalhaven City Council is helping host a number of tree planting and nature preservation events right throughout the area.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Joanna Gash said she encouraged local residents to become involved in this unique event saying National Tree Day was a fun and easy way to get outdoors and make a positive contribution to the local environment

“National Tree Day provides local residents with a great excuse to get outside and help reduce the area’s carbon footprint,” said Clr Gash.

“Such simple actions have positive flow on effects for generations to come and leave a lasting mark on the local environment.

“I recently praised the Shoalhaven Heads community for their proactive efforts in cleaning their local area following the recent floods.”

“National Tree Day provides a further opportunity for local communities to get together and make a positive impact on their village or town.”

“I would strongly encourage local residents to take up the challenge and get involved at one of the sites across the Shoalhaven.”

Shoalhaven City Council will be joining with local Bushcare Groups in hosting tree planting and bush regeneration sessions throughout the day.
