Bendalong - Boat Ramp

Bendalong - Boat Ramp

The Asset Management Plan (AMP) for Public Amenities identifies these toilets as requiring replacement.

Community engagement has been undertaken in relation to the proposals with Red Head Villages Association (RHVA)

When is this proposed to occur?

In school term 3 & 4 (August to November 2018).

What is proposed to happen?

The proposal was to replace the existing 1965 public amenities comprising of fibro clad building containing a male room with a wc and urinal and a female room with 2 wcs with 4 single use unisex toilets.  Two toilets will cater for persons with disabilities with each room comprising a left and right hand transfer grabrail.  Two other toilets will be ambulant compliant.

Sequence of events are:

  • provide services of sewer water and electrical
  • construct new building
  • demolish current building and slab and cap off services

Why are these public amenities getting replaced ?

The current public amenity (toilet) priority is to replace

  • Existing
  • Highly utilised toilets
  • At the end of their life or before their condition detracts patronage
  • That do not comply with current accessibility standards. Council has 119 public amenities of which 58 meet the needs of persons with disabilities enabling inclusivity. Council has a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP).   Page 27 of this plan states that 1 in 2 people who we consulted with said that footpaths, ramps and public toilets were not easy to use in the Shoalhaven. Council's strategy on page 28 is that public toilets provided by Council be modified or replaced with accessible toilets. That is why they are being replaced in a different location
  • Shoalhaven Community Survey Management report (SCSMR) undertaken in 2016 identified public toilets as a priority area for improvement with 30.5% of the population very dissatisfied or dissatisfied with public toilets – see page 20.
