Dee Beach Access Stairs - North Bendalong Road

The Shoalhaven was declared a Natural Disaster Area 14 September 2022 (AGRN 1034) after severe weather and flooding events. This had a major impact on Bendalong and surrounding communities, damaging infrastructure and property. As a result of damages, Council is upgrading the pedestrian beach access path and stairs at Dee Beach on North Bendalong Road, Bendalong.

The latest

8/10/2024 - Repair works at Dee Beach Bendalong were completed by council's contractor. Works were completed on time and have restored the functionality of the beach access staircase and improved the safety and usability of the track.

The repair works replaced damaged structural components of the bottom section of the stairs and deepened the footings to improve the stability of the staircase.

About the project

In 2022 severe weather and large waves during a natural disaster event caused significant damage to this pedestrian beach access path and stairs. The now, severely eroded bank beneath the stairs has exposed the support beams. Repair will involve the reconstruction of the staircase and the foundation elements of this structure.

The recent approval for Commonwealth disaster recovery funding marks a key milestone in council's efforts to repair the damage and restore the best functionality to this beach access asset. Communication and progress tracking will be maintained to keep all stakeholders informed throughout the repair process.

This project was funded by the NSW Government under Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and is completed.
