Subsidised Motorcycle Accident Management First Aid Training

October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, and to encourage safer motorcycle use in the Shoalhaven, Shoalhaven City Council together with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and First Aid for Motorcyclists are running a Motorcycle Accident management training course.  

Motorcycle Awareness Month encourages drivers and other road users to be aware and mindful of motorcycles on the road.  

'Motorcyclists are more exposed and risk serious injuries when riding if they are involved in a crash. In the Shoalhaven LGA from 2015 to 2019, there were 7 (5%) fatal crashes and 144 (14%) casualty crashes involving motorcyclists. 

Council will host a session in conjunction with First Aid for Motorcyclists, on Saturday 20 November 2021 at 9.30am -2.00pm at the Nowra Administration Building.  

The interactive course is developed specifically for motorcyclists providing vital skills needed to provide effective accident scene management and immediate roadside first aid assistance until emergency services arrive. 

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley encouraged all road users to enrol in the session.  

“The course is delivered by highly qualified and experienced first aid instructors who ride,” Clr Findley said.  

“The course is practical and offers a hands on approach so you can learn how to safely manage an accident scene, when and how to move a casualty in danger or perform emergency helmet removal, provide effective CPR, treat a rider with serious traumatic injuries and steps to prevent accidents occurring in the first place,” Clr Findley said.  

For Motorcycle Awareness Month, Council has reduced the cost to $47.50, normally $95, to provide greater access to the training course. 

The course is beneficial for all road users, and each session is limited to 20 participants.
