Today, Sunday 7 February 2021, marks one year since the end of the Currowan Bushfires in the Shoalhaven.

Shoalhaven City Council has recognised the one-year anniversary with the release of a short video titled: Our Shoalhaven: 2019.

The video reflects on the impact of the bushfires for the Shoalhaven and features Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley along with community leaders from the region.

The community leaders include Fr Michael Dyer from Shoalhaven Rising from the Ashes, Peter Dover from Salt Ministries, Jan Frikken from the Shoalhaven Multicultural Group and Uncle Uncle Vic Channell from Ulladulla Local Aboriginal Land Council.

The video was narrated by acclaimed former ABC journalist Richard Morecroft and also features video footage taken shortly after the bushfires in the Shoalhaven by local artist, Tim Georgeson.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley said “Today is an important day to reflect and acknowledge the impact of the Currowan and Comberton bushfires on the Shoalhaven”.

“For many the journey of recovery continues and it’s important we stay connected and committed to supporting one another”, Clr Findley stated.

“To mark the one-year anniversary we invited community leaders to share their experience and message of hope and resilience to the community”, Clr Findley said.

“For those that need assistance, we are here to help. I encourage Shoalhaven residents to access support and services by calling Council's dedicated bushfire recovery hotline on 02 4429 5888 or to visit our website for information and resources”, Clr Findley stated.

The video can be watched on Council’s YouTube channel.
