Shoalhaven City Council is pleased to announce the finalisation of the listing of twelve additional heritage items and two Heritage Conservation Areas, including the Queen Street and Showground areas in Berry, following notification of Amendment No. 43 to Shoalhaven Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2014.

The amendment updates the Environmental Heritage schedule in the Shoalhaven LEP 2014 and the associated heritage mapping to include these additional heritage items and conservation areas.

The amendment helps recognise and protect items and streetscapes that possess local heritage significance and assist in managing character impacts in the Berry area by ensuring future development considers the heritage character of the area.

Council initially resolved in September 2020 to proceed with an amendment to Shoalhaven LEP 2014 and submit the Berry Heritage Planning Proposal to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for Gateway determination.

In May 2021 Council undertook formal public consultation in accordance with the terms of the Gateway determination and the resultant Amendment No. 43 was finalised and notified earlier this month.

The Amendment is available on the NSW legislation website for viewing.
