Bin Your Buts and Don't Be a Tosser

Litter DisplayShoalhaven City Council recognises that littering is a serious problem, spoiling scenic spots like beaches and parks and creating an unsightly spectacle along highways.  Shoalhaven City Council is committed to doing something about it.

Council launched its community education campaign on littering in February 2002.  The campaign targeted both residents and holidaymakers and aims to improve the local environment through reduced littering.

Don't be a tosserThe campaign included education activities such as Council and shopping centre displays, give-aways of car litter bags and butts bins, and Billboard School Artwork competition run through the local schools.  The art competition has yielded a design to be used on a billboard on the Princes Highway to act as a strong reminder to motorists that they run the risk of $200 fines if any litter us tossed from their car.

Residents can help spread the litter prevention message by utilising simple things like car litter bags and personal ashtrays which are available at no charge from Council's administration buildings and the Tourist Information Centres.
