Safe Disposal of Sharps and Old and Unwanted Medicines

PoisonAs part of the Shoalhaven City Council Waste Section’s ongoing commitment to the safe disposal of waste, there are two facilities, one in Nowra and one in Ulladulla for the collection of sharps.  These are the Junction St Pharmacy in Nowra and the Ulladulla Community Health Centre.  The Council funds the cost of the safe disposal of this waste.

SharpsSharps may also be taken to the Shoalhaven’s Public Hospitals during normal business hours.  Prior arrangement must be made so it is best to phone in advance to receive the necessary instructions.

Sharps should be contained in an approved ‘sharps container’ before taking them to either to the Council locations or hospitals to be disposed of.  The sharps containers are available from most pharmacies.

Don't hoard pillsFurther to this, as part of a Federal Government initiative for the safe disposal of unwanted medicines, most pharmacies in the Shoalhaven are able to receive these for collection and safe disposal.  Check with your local Pharmacy and lets keep unwanted medicines away from children, out of our water supply and the environment.

For more information about the project, visit the website www.returnmed.com.au or contact Simon Appel at the RUM Project on 1300 650 835 or rum@netconnect.com.au.
