In Australia, over 12 million people own a mobile phone and exchange it on average, every 2 years. That is a lot of potentially toxic waste in our landfills.

Never put mobile phones into rubbish bins. At landfill the battery breaks down and the cadmium leaks. This is more toxic in the environment than lead. It is better to make sure they are recycled.

Do not put your mobile phones in your normal household recycling bin. Unwanted mobile phones can only be dropped off for recycling at one of the official participating stores listed below:
