Winning the Battle on Privet in Upper Brogers Creek

At this site:

The Council privet team have had four recent outings on Upper Brogers Creek.

Just returned today from working with Paul Bernie. Paul has some privet (but not too bad), especially along wide bed of the river. Another session at Paul's will have removed all of the flowering privet from his section of the river.

A couple of weeks ago, we joined Brian Palmer and Amanda Clark (below Foremans Road) for a long and productive day in their major gully. A lot of tall flowering small leaved privet (all of which is now dead) as well as plenty of smaller privet and lantana on the hillside (as you might expect). But, like Paul's, some beautiful trees and a very wide range of rainforest species are regenerating. This gully was the worst privet spot on their property.

In addition, we worked above the causeway along Brogers Creek Road (we worked by ourselves that day (no locals assisting)). I think that we have removed all of the privet above the causeway, apart from one paddock (across the creek from Jenny Thompson).

A productive day was also spent at the Tree Fern Gully in downtown Wattamolla with Belinda Watson (thanks for the great cake).

Overall, I think that we are well on track to meet the goal of no flowering privet above Priddles Lane by the middle of next year. There will be a number (perhaps many) patches of young seedlings and regrowth, and we will need to be vigilant and follow these up. But lets keep up the good work - the end is possibly coming into sight.
