To build on the success of the Privet Control Program, the Brogers Creek Landcare Group Inc, the Friends of the Brush-Tailed Rock-Wallaby, 12 Kangaroo Valley landowners and Council sought funds for a demonstration privet spraying and creek bank restoration program. The program will focus on large privet infestations on both public and private land in Kangaroo Valley. The program will use the capacity and expertise of the Noxious Weeds Staff to demonstrate to landowners the safe and effective methods of spray control of these large privet forests. The Sydney Catchment Authority has offered a grant of $8,000 towards this project. This grant will meet half the cost of spraying on both public and private land, as well as provide plants for replanting. The remaining half cost will be met by landowners. The Noxious Weeds Officer and the Privet Control Officer would hold on-site workshops with landowners to explain and reinforce the safe spraying strategy. Council’s role in this project will be to administer the funds and undertake spraying as well as manage the spraying operation on roadsides and reserves. The management of the project is the responsibility of the Brogers Creek Landcare Group. The first round of spraying is scheduled for October 2003. |
