Privet in Cambewarra

Return to:

Councils Privet Control Team is commencing some work with the Tapitallee Landcare on privet control in the Cambewarra area. I appears that there is a relatively small amount of privet in the Cambewarra area.

Over the next 2 months, we will be trying to:

  • identify the extent of Privet in the Cambewarra area;

  • treat those plants on Council land (reserves and roadsides) likely to flower and fruit over this summer;

  • raise awareness among private landowners about the importance and methods of privet control; and

  • provide training for landowners and volunteers on cut and paint control methods.

Our first working session will be at the junction of Main Road and Good Dog Creek on Thursday, November 6th. A training session will be held on the reserve (access from Main Road) from 11am.

Council staff can assist this effort in a range of ways, such as:

  • Informing me of sites in Cambewarra where privet exists;

  • Joining the Bushcare group to control privet on the reserve;

  • Undertaking privet control on their own properties, and

  • Promoting and supporting control efforts in their community.
