Congratulations Upper River
A concerted effort in tackling Small Leaved Privet (Ligustrum sinense) while the river was low has been a very successful strategy. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers (pictured above) a major threat to the local ecology has been averted. Removal was timely and undertaken prior to bushes setting seed (April/May) this will go a long way towards preventing new outbreaks. A relay team of 12 people cut, painted, dragged through the river, dragged up the slope and fed the woody material through the mulcher. The mulch will be used on supplementary planting nearby. Removing woody debris out of the flood zone is considered Best Practice and will ensure that excess branches do not become part of the flood waters and cause problems downstream.
