Plan adopted (July 1998) and currently under comprehensive review

Actions undertaken:

 

-Nature Conservation

Remediation of Paradise Beach completed 2005

Pat’s Bay acid sulphate remediation and foreshore rehabilitation completed 2006

Foreshore rehabilitation at Blackett Park funded in 2007-2008 Estuary Program

Estuary Education installation funded in 2007-2008 Estuary Program

 

-Water Quality

Stormwater Management Plan: significant review and reprioritisation from capture and treatment to source control implementation substantially commenced 2004, but ongoing in 2005 and 2006. Requires extensive road verge sealing to improve stormwater quality discharging from urban areas

Funding obtained for catchment event sampling which was carried out through the year and will be completed in November 2002

Joint work with Geoscience Australia Identified that the “Basin’s” nutrient cycling capacity is in balance with the nutrient inputs (based on modelling by SCC). Monitoring continues.

-Erosion and Sedimentation

Northern Foreshore Erosion study completed 2002.

Remediation at John Williams Reserve completed 2005.

Foreshore rehabilitation at Sussex Inlet completed in 2007

Artificial fishing reefs installed in 2007

Ballast rocks (navigation hazard) near inlet mouth removed

Basin View Boat ramp and jetty upgrade completed 2002

Upgrade of John Williams reserve boat ramp currently in the design phase

-Visual Quality

Very good 

-Estuary Entrance

Seismic survey completed, defining rock shelf

Current sand shoaling at the entrance presenting a navigation risk  future flood management issuek and

Council initiating an entrance sensitivity analysis to determine climate change impacts on e
