Actions undertaken:

 

-Nature Conservation

Riparian restoration funding successful under the Catchment Management Board’s core bid to NHT.

A number of foreshore improvement projects completed. Eg. Nowra Sailing club, Greenwell Point Foreshore erosion protection works (total value $500K)

-Water Quality

Water quality monitoring (link below to water quality page for Shoalhaven river)

Shoalhaven Water has funded the commencement of a Clean Waters Model style project for the Shoalhaven River. The project will focus on reducing the risk of harvest closure for the Oyster Industry. Council has commissioned a water quality risk assessment to identify the range of threats and allow future funding to focus on priority actions.

-Erosion and Sedimentation

Greenwell Point erosion study completed, detailed erosion protection design completed, funding support obtained, DA approval gained and construction completed in 2006. Extensive stabilisation works commenced and completed in 2008

Successful foreshore riparian and mangrove revegetation planting trials completed and ongoing on lower river to address embankment instability and provide ecological benefits in locations at lesser risk of scour via thalweg migration.

Strategic bank management document is required to guide future actions on the river shoreline.

-Cultural Heritage

 

-Flooding

Flood Study completed.

Floodplain Risk Management Study and Management Plan adopted ion 2008.

-Fishery

 Three fishing platforms were funded under the DPI Recreational Fishing Trust program. One platform at Nowra, Terrara levee and Greenwell Point were installed during 2007-2008 and including fishing education signage

-Recreation, Waterway Access & Boating

Upper river waterway usage study completed and provided to NSW Maritime.

NSW Maritime have completed a Draft Boating Management Plan for the river which is currently under agency review.

Major upgrade of Shoalhaven Rowing Club site completed 2001

Low level landing and disabled access for Greys Beach boat ramp completed 2001

Greys Beach Plan of Management adopted in 2004

Regional boat ramp facility upgrade proposed for Greenwell point in conjunction with major reserve landscape upgrade and scheduled for construction in 2008-2009

-Visual Quality

 good

-Estuary Entrance

 Entrance Management Policy completed and adopted by Council. Preparation of REF also completed for maintenance of the Dry Notch area for flood breakout operations. Significant additional technical investigations commissioned and completed to ensure entrance configurations and management measures were commensurate with those utilised in predicting flood affectation. All additional technical investigations completed and led to important refinements to entrance management plan.
