Estuary Name:

NARRAWALLEE INLET

Status of plan:

Plan adopted by taskforce 2002

Actions undertaken:

 

-Nature Conservation

Bushcare group is currently undertaking environmental improvements including large amounts of weed mapping and significant ongoing control activities.

Significant grant funding has been allocated to accelerate weed control in the southern beach reserve.

 The coastal dune environment is much healthier for the substantial efforts of the volunteers.

$35,000 of Foreshore rehabilitation and education signage has been funded under the 2007-2008 Estuary Program and is currently in the design phase.

 

-Water Quality

Review of Stormwater Management Plan completed 2005 with revision of sub-catchment hydrology and hydraulics. Education via drain stencilling implemented to improve awareness of link between urban drainage and inlet water quality and environmental health. 

-Erosion and Sedimentation

Foreshore erosion study of Narrawallee Inlet completed. Detailed design of foreshore revetment works in eroded areas and more natural rehabilitation works in less vulnerable locations completed with preparation of REF and Development Application approval. Construction completed in 2006

 

-Cultural Heritage

 

-Flooding

No floodplain management study is planned.

However,  the Coastal Hazard Risk Assessment have identified that some of the dune crest levels along Narrawallee beach are at risk of overtopping and coastal inundation is predicted. Options for managing this risk are being addressed in the Shoalhaven Coastal Zone Management Plan.

-Fishery

Interim strategy adopted and implemented for the management of the invasive aquatic weed Caulerpa Taxifolia

-Recreation, Waterway Access & Boating

Foreshore landscape plan for Narrawallee inlet developed in consultation with task force and community residents group.

Boat ramp sealing is funded under  2008-2009 capital Works Program

Revetment works included rebuilding and improving access to beach from reserve.

Walking track and park facility upgrade proposed in the Foreshore Landscape Plan (to be implemented over the next three years)

Narrawallee Inlet Walking track upgrade completed in partnership with Council, Greencorp, Work for the Dole and the Bush care group
