Estuary Name:

Status of plan:

Adopted (March 1997) and currently under comprehensive review

Actions undertaken:

 

Nature Conservation

Foreshore rehabilitation plans developed and submitted in 2003-2004 Estuary Program Submission

$25,000 Weed management project completed in 2008 on the southern side of the lake and funded by Southern Rivers CMA

Short St car park relocated in 2003 along with foreshore rehabilitation and path installation

$20,000 Education signage project funded under the DECC Estuary Program developed and installed during 2007

$30,000 Foreshore rehabilitation project funded under the DECC Estuary Program currently being developed for the northern shoreline and will be installed during 2008-2009 including education signage , fishing platform, picnic facilities and riparian revegetation.

Water Quality

Sewerage system installed during 2007-2008 which significantly addresses the major threat to water quality

Stormwater management plan completed in 2005. Included sub-catchment mapping of the urban area and identification of many small catchments with low capture potential for devices. Education initiatives commenced in 2006 with brochure distribution, increased drain stencils and strengthened riparian plantings.

Erosion and Sedimentation

Foreshore erosion study completed in 2003 for area fronting Ocean St. Implementation proposed 2003 following review of consultants report, detailed design, preparation of REF and approval of Development Application under SEPP 71 conditions.

Construction completed in 2006 providing erosion protection to foreshore reserve. The sand nourished areas have settled with salt marsh recolonising the new bed levels

Flood Study

Consultant engaged in 2007 and draft report expected late in 2008

Fishery

 Fishing Haven status 2002

Fishing platform installed in 2007 funded under the Recreation Fishing Grant program

Recreation, Waterway Access & Boating

Southern shore foreshore walking track from Oak Ave to beach including track, boardwalk, beach access  viewing decks had minor upgrades in 2007-2008 along with park enhancements such as the electric BBQ

Visual Quality

 Very nice

Estuary Entrance

Entrance Management Policy Completed 2006. Last intervention in winter 2007 in conjunction with a Phd student survey undertaken by UoQ

Biannually with additional meetings on a as needs basis.
