Indicator description

What does the Data tell us for 2008

The interim environmental objectives for the Shoalhaven River have been influenced by:

·         Healthy Rivers Commission report on Shoalhaven River;

·         Sydney Catchment Authority water extraction licence;

·         Water Management Act 2000.

Table 50 - Environmental Objectives

Overview

Achievements

Bulk Water Supply Agreement with SCA and Bulk Water Supply Protocols incorporate environmental releases.

Implementation of the new agreement was successful; with water releases from Tallowa Dam being coordinated to meet Shoalhaven Water’s pumping demand as well as satisfying environmental requirements.

Water restrictions not required in 2007-2008.

Timely release from Tallowa Dam and pumping to Shoalhaven Water’s off-stream storage at Bamarang prior to short periods of low river flows allowed the Town Supply to be maintained without the need for supplementation from the Danjera Dam back-up supply.

Table 50a - Environmental Objectives (Targets)

Objective

Target

Maintain Environmental Flow objectives

Monitor weather, inflows, consumption and maintain dialogue with Sydney Catchment Authority for compliance with the Environmental Flow regime and efficient use of water resource.

Review Environmental Flow/ Extraction Regime

Work in partnership with the State Government in understanding economic, environmental, social and engineering studies into proposed environmental flow and extraction regime proposed for water supply to Sydney.
