Anecdotal evidence suggests that numbers of Indian Myna (Acridotheres tristis) are increasing in the Kiama/Shoalhaven area. There is much community and political interest in eradicating this exotic species as it is a perceived pest.
This project aims to:
• assess impact of the Indian Myna Bird populations in the Shoalhaven and Kiama area; • investigate their distribution and abundance; • investigate key habitat correlates that are facilitating any local increase; • recommend strategies to reduce any impact on native wildlife; and • evaluate current trapping programs and other methods of reduction.
