Causeway Options Study completed

Process Study completed

Burrill Lions Park Erosion study and stabilisation project was completed in 2005 at a cost of $140,000

Burrill Lake Entrance Policy project commenced in August 2006

-Nature Conservation

Caulerpa mapping completed by Fisheries 2002. Public education campaign programmed for summer season.

Riparian vegetation education and access project at McDonald Parade Reserve ($50,000) is completed and the signage was repeated at the Lions Park project site

Rehabilitation project for the Wallaroo Drive foreshore reserve is in the detailed design and contract stage ($50,000)

Fishing education signage project funded by DPI Fisheries in 2006 is in the design phase

-Water Quality

Process Study found that the major impacts on water quality are the nature of the lake itself (northern and southern basins do not flush well) and agriculture (in particular grazing) in the catchment

-Erosion and Sedimentation

Kings point stormwater and roads drainage improvements scheduled for completion 2003

A full review of the Stormwater Management Plan for Burrill is completed.

High priority actions are being incorporated into the roads  and estuary management program

-Cultural Heritage

The Open Air Burrill Lake Theatre, the most significant item of cultural heritage at Burrill Lake, was demolished during 2001.

-Flooding

Flood Study under technical review, to be finalised in 2006

-Fishery

Fishing Haven Status 2002

Interim strategy adopted and implemented for the management of the invasive aquatic weed Caulerpa Taxifolia

Fishing education signage project funded by DPI Fisheries in 2006 is in the design phase. Due to be installed on Lions Park fishing platforms and inform of desirable fish species ecology and legal limits.

-Recreation, Waterway Access & Boating

Landscape upgrades implemented Lions Park in partnership with Lions Club and Council. Improvements will be ongoing in accordance with Landscape Master plan. Current works are focusing on the creek line rehabilitation

Boat users are being asked to stay out of the Caulerpa infested area at the north of the lake, and to inspect their gear and wash down their boat to halt its spread to other estuaries.  A brochure seeking the assistance of boaters in halting the spread of Caulerpa is being distributed to all boat users during this summer

Jetty construction at Maria Ave Boatramp completed

 Very Good

-Estuary Entrance

Entrance Management policy proposed as part of Estuary Forward Program and funding support gained. Interim intervention level of 1.25m AHD adopted in the Estuary Management Plan is currently used. This level being reviewed under project to prepare detailed entrance management plan

Natural Resources and Floodplain Management Committee:

Yes. Committee replaced Estuary Task Force to combine issues of flood, estuary and vegetation management under one committee with local community representation.

Biannual with additional meetings on a needs basis.
