Land contamination - 2004Home | Land | Land Use & Management | Land Contamination | 2004 What does the Data tell us for 2000 - 2004Council has adopted a draft “Contaminated Land Policy” based on a model policy developed by the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils. This draft Policy was further refined by Council staff and preliminary consultation was undertaken with relevant Government Agencies, professional groups and local development industry representatives during late 2002. It is envisaged that the draft Policy will be formally exhibited for public comment during late 2004/ early 2005 and affected landowners will be advised accordingly. As part of the preparation of the Policy a database of site records that show a previous land use that may lead to site contamination has continued to be developed. The database currently contains approximately 349 records, with five (5) new sites being added to the database during the 2003/04 reporting period. The sites added during this period have records showing previous use as fuel storages, landfills or soil fill activities and have been added due to redevelopment of these sites. The updated database of sites is contained as a layer on Councils internal Geographic Information System (GIS) to ensure that Council staff are aware that there may be a land contamination issue that requires consideration when the future use or development of land is considered.
