What does the Data tell us for 2000/2004

The interim environmental objectives for the Shoalhaven River have been influenced by:

·         Healthy Rivers Commission report on Shoalhaven River;

·         Sydney Catchment Authority water extraction licence; and

·         Water Management Act 2000.

Shoalhaven Council manages its water extraction to enable the Shoalhaven river to meet its Environmental Flow requirements as determined by an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) in 1998. The EIS identified that pumping generally should not occur out of the Shoalhaven River when the Tallowa Dam inflow is less than 90ML per day. In the 2000/04 period Council complied with this guideline.

Management of flows downstream of Burrier weir by installation of gauge and telemetry monitoring.

Measurement and management of environmental flows into Danjera Dam and flood flows at the Dam.  

2002/03 Drought

Low inflows enacted the Drought Management Plan and water restrictions applied across the city for approximately four months.

Monitor weather, inflows, consumption and maintain dialog with Sydney Catchment Authority for compliance with the Environmental Flow regime and efficient use of water resource.

Review Environmental Flow/ Extraction Regime

Work in partnership with the State Government in understanding economic, environmental, social and engineering studies into proposed environmental flow and extraction regime proposed for water supply to Sydney.
