Coolangatta Road upgrade work continues

Shoalhaven City Council is currently upgrading a 1.7 kilometre section of Coolangatta Road, Coolangatta as part of its Capital Works Program.

The works, between Swamp Road and Agars Lane at Far Meadow, will include the removal of road side hazards, widening and strengthening the pavement, installation of guardrail as well as the provision of sign posting and delineation improvements.

Shoalhaven Water has taken the opportunity to upgrade a section of the Coolangatta Road water main, which has been designed to be compatible with the new road works.

Shoalhaven City Council Director of City Services and Operations, Bill Paterson said Stage one of the work, which commenced in May, began with the widening of culverts, installation of the water main and relocation of power poles.

Mr Paterson said additional funding had now been provided to implement Stage two of the works including the strengthening and widening of the pavement.

“These works will significantly upgrade the highly utilised section of Coolangatta Road, between Swamp Road and Agars Lane and will assist in providing safer driving conditions in this area,” said Mr Paterson.

“During the works, the existing road surface condition is being monitored and repairs have been undertaken.

“Temporary pavement markers have been installed along the centreline to improve the definition of the travel lane and potholes are being repaired as required.”

“Council apologises for any inconvenience these necessary works may cause, however I believe the community will be more than pleased with the upgraded road” said Mr Paterson.

Works are expected to be complete by early 2012 depending on favourable weather conditions.
