Elections
Council elections are held every 4 years, the next being on Saturday 8 September, 2012.

Under the Local Government Act it was compulsory for the NSW Electoral Commission to run all council elections. On the 27 June 2011 changes to the Act came into effect allowing Councils to choose who will conduct their elections.  Our Council has decided to appoint the Australian Election Company to run this years election.

Our Council is divided which means that the city is subdivided into wards (3) each being represented by an equal number of Councillors (4).  The Mayor is elected by popular vote at the same time as the Councillors.

The Ward boundaries page has maps showing the areas included in each ward.

For more detailed information on voting systems, past election results and the general structure of Councils visit the Electoral Commission NSW website (new window).
